Although we are still working on the reconstruction of our website and therefore missed our customary monthly news bulletin in August we are still very active with heaps going on as ever at Pottles.
Its World Alzheimer’s Awareness month all through September – this means we are talking about our view and values in what we believe, what we know and what we do in terms of looking after those living with this (the most common) type of dementia at Pottles Court.
Our next Residents and Guests meeting on the 20th September -4.30-6pm will have another action packed agenda – reviewing what we’ve been up to since our last full meeting in July as well as what’s coming up in the next few weeks – a few quick reflections here:
Our Summer Fete was a great success – lots of cakes, raffle prizes and hilarity
Lorraine has been doing lots of manicures and plans afoot to do some specialist foot massaging coinciding with our extended ‘bare foot selfie month’ between September and October – the well I never themes extends to being part of such an event – this combining a light-hearted entertainment of snap shots of tootsies with a more serious method of checking and following up foot care (supported by our brilliant chiropodist Heather – we launched our ‘wiggling your toes for a healthy long life’ at our last residents meeting
We’ve had a fab time doing lino cuts and printing with our friends from the north Snow&Crow with lots of excellent cows, badgers and foxes being produced – to the oft repeated ‘well I never’ from those involved
We’ve had more jelly baby flicking, domino contesting and some Jenga follow ups after a long pause since our last battles
We are very immersed in our ‘my kind of music’ compilation plans of the music that has touched our lives – Jim Reeves for Pam for example and its seems lots of people are very willing to burst into song at the drop of a hat – we’ve had powerful renditions of Aretha Franklin songs commemorating losing her, the Louis Armstrong classics and a dreadful time trying to get the words right of ‘If I were a rich man’ from Fiddler of the Roof – you try it – it’s a very challenging set of lyrics for sure !!
We have a whopping array of ideas and plans upcoming as we bid a fond farewell to the long hot summer – autumn if for many a firm favourite season – we are talking about memories of autumn at the residents and guest meeting on the 20th too – we will be Greta Garbo remembered on the 18th September
Our Twiggy birthday quiz on the 19th September
Cheesy scone making with Director George on the 26th September
Our Flying Scotsman tribute plans (not just for our resident train fanatic Eric) to coincide with its visit to Devon and trip passing our window – virtually to Cornwall and bak in early October
Motor Cycle Mayhem on the 16th October – lots of ex rockers and dormant and latent bike chicks we have discovered – so a bike in the house is planned – fully risk assessed – watch this space
Fred and Ginger Day will be during October too – date to be decided
We really must mention the imminent arrival of another baby with a strong connection with Pottles – Jenny, ex employee / carer and daughter of deputy manager and head of care, Jie Lu, is about the have her first child due any time – Jenny is now working as a senior radiologist at Great Ormond Street hospital for sick children – we are very much looking forward to her bringing her new arrival for a visit – babies are always a huge hit when visiting – nappy changing support and advice in great supply - another topic for our meeting on the 20th !!
That’s all for now – normal services and photos to be resumed next month
